Delta-13 Interview with Brian Pauley

In this week’s blog, we are going to interview one of the billiard players we partner with for monthly videos, Brian Pauley.

 

Brian, tell us something about yourself you think everyone may not know about you.

Brian: I am a member of two international Star Wars costume groups in the 501^st Legion and the Rebel Legion.  We attend charity events, we do hospital visits, buddy walks, and are staples at sci fi conventions.  I cosplay as Luke Skywalker, padawan Obi-Wan Kenobi, and a sandtrooper.

 

Wow! What would you say, is your greatest pool accomplishment?

Right now it is winning the rising star award.  The rising star award is an award sponsored by long time pro Tim Chin that is awarded to the highest scoring player that has played in 3 events or less.  I won it in my third event at the Masters Artistic Pool Championships.

 

Congratulations, that is a great accomplishment. Brian, what are your "billiard career goals" for the next 3-5 years?

Play in the last group, win an Artistic Pool event, win an world Championship, get into the top ten in the player rankings.

 

Aside from your professional career, do you have another occupation?

I am an R&D Chemist for a chemical company.

 

Who introduced you to billiards and are they still part of your game?

My dad introduced me to pool in general and he is still apart of my career.  He is my videographer for all my video series I do.

 

What are your strengths and areas of opportunity when it comes to your game?

My strength is being able to keep calm during events.  I usually don’t get rattled.  I have areas of opportunity in execution of shots.  I love practicing shots that I don’t make a lot and then make then regularly. 

 

Do you have a pool mentor?

I don’t really have one specific pool mentor.  Some people that have helped me in the sport are Steve Lillis, Tom Rossman, Jason Lynch, and Tim Chin.

 

What sets you apart from other pool players?

My demeanor.  I don’t ever get flustered with people or situations.  I am just happy to be competing and I don’t let anything else bother me.  I also love to stay after the tournaments, sometimes way late, to interact with fans and show them the sport.

 

What would you say is the best part of your game?

I always score very high in the bank/kick discipline. 

 

What motivates you in your craft?

My motivation lies with my desire to play better for myself, my friends and family, and my sponsors/partners.  They are the reason why I have the unbelievable opportunity to call myself a professional pool player, which was a dream of mine sine I was a little kid.

 

What would you say is the most critical moment in the game/tournament/trick shot event?

The first and last shot of each discipline.  It sets the tone of each discipline and it is the last chance to score high in the discipline.
